What this site is

Masala Money is an independent publisher of financial calculators and guides for Indian users — salary, pay commission, SIP and SWP, income tax, FD, PPF and the rest of the small-savings basket. The domain, masalanews24.in, previously ran a Hindi news experiment; in June 2026 it relaunched as Masala Money with a single focus: tools that give you the same number your bank, employer or the tax department would compute.

How the calculators are built

Every formula traces to an official source, not to another website's calculator:

  • Income tax — FY 2025-26 slabs, the §87A rebate and standard deduction exactly as enacted in Budget 2025.
  • DA and pay commission — Department of Expenditure orders and the published 7th CPC pay matrix. 8th CPC figures are clearly labelled scenarios, because the commission's recommendations are not final.
  • Small savings — PPF, SSY, SCSS, NSC, MIS and KVP rates from the Finance Ministry's quarterly notifications.
  • Gratuity, EPF, HRA — the Payment of Gratuity Act formula, EPFO contribution rules and the Income-tax HRA exemption test.

All constants live in a single verified file in our codebase, so every calculator on the site agrees with every other one.

Editorial standards

  • As-of dating. Any figure that can go stale — an interest rate, a DA percentage, a TDS threshold — carries the date it was last verified, and we update on each official notification.
  • No invented numbers. Where something isn't final (like 8th Pay Commission fitment factors), we show publicly discussed scenarios and say so plainly.
  • Corrections. If you spot an error, tell us — corrections are our highest-priority mail and are fixed promptly.

Independence and money

The site is free to use and earns from advertising (Google AdSense). Advertisers have no say in what we build or write. The calculators run entirely in your browser: no account, no email capture, and your inputs never leave your device.
