What the Nifty 500 is

The Nifty 500 is the National Stock Exchange's broad-market index — roughly the 500 largest companies by full market capitalisation, covering more than 90% of the listed market cap and every major sector. It is the widest commonly-cited NSE benchmark, taking in the giant Nifty 50 names alongside hundreds of mid- and small-cap companies. The table above lists all 504 constituents — 104 large cap, 150 mid cap and 250 small cap — with each company's sector and, where we track it, a live price. It is a factual classification, not a ranking and not a "best stocks to buy" list.

Reading the list by cap band

The cap-filter buttons above the table let you view the universe one band at a time — large, mid or small cap — and the search box filters by company name or symbol. The bands follow NSE index methodology and SEBI's framework: large cap is the top 100 companies, mid cap the 101st–250th, and small cap 251st and beyond. As a factual observation, larger companies have historically been less volatile and smaller ones more volatile — their prices move more in both directions. That describes risk-return profiles, not quality: no band is "better" in the abstract, and which suits you depends on your goals, horizon and risk tolerance.

How the list changes and how to use it

Membership and cap bands come from the index constituents, refreshed as of 2026-06-11. NSE reviews its indices periodically — typically twice a year — and companies move between bands or in and out of the index as their market cap and liquidity shift, so this is a snapshot rather than a permanent roster. Treat it as a research map: use the filters to narrow the field, check each company's sector and price, then study its own filings and valuation before forming any view. Many investors get broad exposure through a Nifty 500 or broad-market index fund via a steady SIP rather than picking individual names.
