What "large cap" means in India

A large-cap stock is one of the 100 largest listed companies in India by market capitalisation. The classification is not our opinion — it follows NSE's index methodology (the Nifty 100 universe) and SEBI's framework, which defines large cap as the top 100 companies by full market cap, mid cap as the 101st–250th, and small cap as 251st and beyond. The table above is simply every name that currently falls into that top-100 bucket, with its sector and, where we track it, a live price. It is a map for research, not a ranking and not a "best stocks to buy" list.

How large caps behave — risk and return, neutrally

Large caps are the most-followed, most-traded companies on the exchange, so they tend to have deeper liquidity and more analyst coverage than smaller names. Historically they have been less volatile than mid caps and small caps — their prices typically move less in both directions. That lower volatility is a factual observation about past price behaviour, not a promise of safety or returns: large caps still fall in bear markets and can underperform smaller companies in a strong bull run. Neither size is "better" in the abstract; each suits different goals, horizons and risk tolerances.

How the list is built and why it changes

Membership comes straight from the index constituents, refreshed as of 2026-06-11. NSE reviews its indices periodically — typically twice a year — and a company can shift between large, mid and small cap as its market cap rises or falls relative to peers. So this list is a snapshot, not a permanent roster. Before relying on any entry, confirm the current constituents on the NSE and study the company's own filings and valuation.
